Dr. Gregory Olson has come to the end of his six-year term on the Board of Directors of The American Board of Pediatric Dentistry (ABPD), having served most recently as the Immediate Past President. This accomplishment highlights not only Dr. Olson’s personal achievements but also the substantial advancements and contributions he has made to pediatric dentistry.

Dr. Olson's journey in dentistry began at Loma Linda University School of Dentistry, where he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree and completed post-doctoral certifications in pediatric dentistry and orthodontics, alongside a Master of Science in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics. Additionally, he holds a Bachelor of Science in management and finance from Pacific Union College. A lifelong learner, he will be completing a doctorate in health informatics this fall from the McWilliams School of Biomedical Informatics at the University of Texas Health Science Center Houston.

Joining the UTHealth School of Dentistry at Houston in late 2018, Dr. Olson has served as professor and chair of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry since 2023 and also the interim chair of the Department of Orthodontics. His dual-board certification in orthodontics and pediatric dentistry serves as an underscore to his extensive training and dedication to excellence.

Dr. Olson's involvement with ABPD began in 2012. He has served as an examination item writer, part leader, and chair of the Renewal of Certification Process (ROC-P) Subcommittee and as an examiner for the Oral Clinical Examination. He began his term as director in 2018.

Beyond his contributions to ABPD, Dr. Olson is active in advocacy of national health policy and dental education. He completed a legislative fellowship with the American Dental Education Association (ADEA) and chairs ADEA's Legislative Advisory Council, addressing critical issues such as the opioid abuse crisis and integrating whole-person health approaches in dental care.

Significant achievements and unwavering dedication have marked Dr. Olson's tenure on the ABPD Board of Directors. His contributions will not only continue to influence and enhance the field but inspire other pediatric dentists to follow in his footsteps.

Being a part of the ABPD Board of Directors has been a rewarding experience, allowing me to contribute to advancing quality dental care for those in need. I'm thankful for the opportunity to work with a wonderful group of volunteers and staff dedicated to fostering excellence and lifelong learning in our field. Witnessing first-hand the generosity and selflessness of so many people is inspiring. I’m also confident of the number of individuals continuing to lead the ABPD forward.
