The Importance of Safety in Pediatric Dentistry
To agree with the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, ABPD recognizes safety as an essential component of quality oral health care of infants, children, adolescents and those who special health care needs.
ABPD recognizes safety as an essential component of quality oral health care of infants, children, adolescents and those with special health care needs. Safe work environment, practices, and emergency procedures can mean the difference for positive patient outcomes. Therefore, it’s crucial to stay up to date with safety procedures in your dental practice.
While patients are exposed to much of the safety risk, they are not the only ones to consider when thinking about safe dental practices. Dental professionals are predisposed to a number of occupational hazards, including exposure to infections and radiation, allergic reactions, and physical hazards like musculoskeletal complications. Along with patient safety, these are just a few of the reasons that all dental practices should create the safest work environment possible.
ABPD is committed to providing relevant continuous learning opportunities that help a practitioner in their daily practice. Therefore, the Board has prioritized safety as an essential element of ABPD’s Renewal of Certification Process. ABPD has launched a new Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) module, focusing on safety in the pediatric dental office. See below for details:
ABPD’s CQI: Establishing a Culture of Safety in the Pediatric Dental Office
Description: Learn how to understand the definition and elements of safety in the dental office, how to improve safety and emergency processes for patients, and how to understand occupational hazards for providers and staff members, all while fulfilling your annual ABPD Annual Diplomate Renewal!
Additionally, we are proud to not only sponsor the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry’s (AAPD) inaugural Safety Symposium, but pleased that every member of our Board of Directors will be in attendance. We hope that you will be joining us too at this upcoming event where AAPD will provide a look at safety in pediatric dental care and provides practical tools and the latest clinical advice on how to improve office safety for patients, team members and pediatric dentists.
