Introducing the 2023 Oral Clinical Examination Chair and Vice Chair

Our Chair and Vice-Chair were both selected for their positions for the 2023 Oral Clinical Examination Committee (OCEC) following an application and interview process. The applicants were interviewed by ABPD’s Leadership Development & Nominations Committee (LDNC) and the current OCEC chair. After approval from the ABPD Board of Directors, Drs. Silva and Kuba were notified and accepted their new positions for the 2023 committee.

2023 Oral Clinical Examination Chair:

Dr. Daniela Silva, DDS, MS.

Daniela was board certified in 2007. Her service to ABPD has consisted of:

• Oral Clinical Examination Examiner 2012 – 2018, 2021

  • o    Part Leader 2020 – 2021 
  • o    Committee Member 2013 – 2018 

Dr. Daniela Rodrigues Silva is the Section Chair of Pediatric Dentistry while holding the Dr. Thomas K. Barber Endowed Chair, the Director of the Pediatric Residency Program, and an Associate Clinical Professor of Pediatric Dentistry in the Division of Preventive and Restorative Sciences at UCLA School of Dentistry.
 
Dr. Silva is originally from Goiânia, Goiás, Brazil. After completing dental school, she completed a certificate in Pediatric Dentistry in 1989 and owned a pediatric dentistry private practice in Goiânia, Brazil, from 1989 to 2000. At the same time, she had a part-time faculty position in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the School of Dentistry of Anápolis, Goiás, Brazil, where she was awarded the “Teacher of the Year” for three consecutive years.  Dr. Silva moved to US to pursue a certificate and a Master in Sciences in Pediatric Dentistry at University of Michigan. After this completion, she joined the University of Florida College of Dentistry in August 2004 and was the Residency Program Director of the Gainesville and the Naples programs until July 2011, when she joined the UCLA School of Dentistry. Dr. Silva is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and a Fellow of the American College of Dentists. Dr. Silva practices at UCLA Faculty Practice Dental Group and loves her moments with her pediatric patients. Dr. Silva has taught innumerous continuing education courses in Pediatric Dentistry and those courses always receive superb evaluations.

2023 Oral Clinical Examination Vice Chair:

Dr. Reena Kuba, DDS, MS.

Reena was board certified in 2007. Her service to ABPD has consisted of:

  • o    Committee Member 2012 – 2017 & 2019-2022
  • o    Part Leader: 2016 - 2017

Dr. Reena Kuba is a board certified pediatric dentist. She is a native of Dallas, Texas and is proud to be raising her two daughters there with her husband. Dr. Kuba is currently serving her second term on the Oral Examination Committee. Dr. Kuba is also serving her second governor-appointed term on the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners Dental Review Committee (DRC). Prior to serving on the DRC, Dr. Kuba served on the state board's Dental Review Panel and was selected to represent pediatric dentistry on the state board's Blue Ribbon Panel.  Dr. Kuba also enjoys volunteering by teaching dental students and residents at the Texas A&M College of Dentistry's Department of Pediatric Dentistry. When she's not "nerding out" at one of her consulting positions, she can be found at her small, private practice in Irving, Texas where providing care to the children in her community is a great joy as is working alongside the strong women on her team. Overall, cultivating a safe, respectful, and compassionate environment for her patients and her team is a top priority for Dr. Kuba.
