As part of our ongoing recognition of new leadership, we would like to introduce two members of the Examination Committee leadership.
We extend heartfelt congratulations to Chair, Dr. Rochelle (Shelley) Lindemeyer, and Vice-Chair, Dr. Leslie Tanimura, on their appointments.
Chair, Qualifying Examination Subcommittee
Dr. Rochelle “Shelley” Lindemeyer
Shelley was board certified in 1989 and has been an active participant with ABPD. Her service to ABPD has consisted of:
- Oral Clinical Examination Examiner: 2008 - 2013, 2015 - 2019
- Qualifying Examination Subcommittee: Member 2009
- Qualifying Examination Subcommittee: Part Leader 2010 - 2017
- Qualifying Examination Subcommittee: Vice Chair 2018 - 2020

Dr. Lindemeyer graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine in 1977 and earned a Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry from the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, University of Pennsylvania in 1979. Shelley began her academic career serving as Director of Pediatric Dentistry at the Temple University Maurice H. Kornberg School of Dentistry. She joined the University of Penn in 2002 and restored the combined Pediatric Residency Program of Penn and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where she served as Director until 2016.
Dr. Lindemeyer continues her research, teaches part-time and serves as an Attending Dentist at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Operating Room and the Dental Clinic at the University of Pennsylvania. She is a consultant to the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association, and treasurer of the Philadelphia County Dental Society. Shelley’s honors include membership in Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the national dental honor society, fellowships in the International and American College of Dentists, and recognition in Philadelphia magazine as Top Dentist.
In her spare time, Dr. Lindemeyer enjoys woodworking, traveling, riding on her jet ski and spending as much time as her schedule allows at her beach house in Ocean City, NJ.
Vice Chair, Qualifying Examination Subcommittee
Dr. Leslie Tanimura
Leslie was board certified in 1995 and has also been an active participant with ABPD. Her service to ABPD has consisted of:
- Oral Clinical Examination Examiner: 2007, 2010, 2014 - 2017
- Qualifying Examination Subcommittee: Member 2010 - 2017
- Qualifying Examination Subcommittee: Part Leader 2018 - 2020

Dr. Tanimura brings a warm, personal approach to patient care. She is a graduate of the University of Southern California School of Dentistry and the Indiana University pediatric dentistry residency program. Dr. Tanimura also completed a cerebral palsy fellowship and received her master’s degree while attending Indiana University. During her years as a faculty member at the University of Kentucky, she attained certification by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.
Dr. Tanimura is a member of the medical staff at Children’s Hospital Oakland. In addition, Dr. Tanimura is a member of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry’s Examination Committee. As the Vice Chair for the Qualifying Examination Subcommittee, she attends workshops to create and critique future exams. Pediatric dentists taking the Qualifying Examination are participating in the first step of the process to become board certified in the specialty. Each year, she spends one week with fellow examiners from across the nation to give the Oral Clinical Examination. “Participation in the board certification process is an immense honor and a wonderful way to give back to the specialty. I enjoy the camaraderie and appreciate the unique opportunities to interact with researchers and clinicians… all of whom are spending time away from family and patients to strengthen our specialty of pediatric dentistry.”
Dr. Tanimura is an avid reader and also enjoys baking and knitting.
