New ROC-P Policy Change
We have made some changes to our ROC-P policy, and want to share them with you!
Renewal of Certification Process (ROC-P) is a continuous, rolling process documenting achievement in four critical areas of pediatric dentistry. Completion of the four areas is required of Time-limited Diplomates and on a voluntary basis for Unlimited and Life Diplomates, designated "Unlimited-P" or "Life-P." ROC-P is designed to meet rapidly changing science and technology head on, assisting Diplomates to provide the highest quality healthcare to patients.
All requirements are due annually by November 30th. Click here to learn more about the annual requirements.
WHAT IS NEW?
December CE now accepted
ABPD has adjusted the ROC-P cycle open date which now begins December 1st annually. Previously, continuing education (CE) credits taken in December could not be applied to any cycle. Now any CE hours awarded in December will count towards the next years cycle requirements.
I.e. CE course taken on December 15, 2019 can be recorded and will count towards the 2020 CE requirement.
With this change, it means that there is no longer a "grace period" offered for Diplomates to be able to get their requirements completed. Diplomates that fail to meet the deadline November 30 will be moved to an inactive status and will need to reactivate (see sections below).

Inactivation/Reactivation/
A Diplomate who fails to complete any of the four requirements of the Annual Diplomate Renewal by the stated deadline of November 30th will be placed on Inactive status. Inactive Diplomates will have their names removed from the roster on the ABPD website and shall not declare to the public that they are Diplomates of ABPD.
Any Time-limited and Unlimited Diplomates whose certification is on Inactive Status must now complete the following:
- Successfully complete the Revalidation Examination. This is a new online examination. A registration fee of $500 will be assessed for this exam.
- Successfully completing the Renewal of Certification (ROC) Examination if due during the period of inactivation.
Forfeiture
A Diplomate will forfeit certification and must reinstate (see reinstatement below) their certification if they remain inactive for five (5) or more years.
Reinstatement
Time-limited and Unlimited Diplomates who have forfeited ABPD certification and wish to become certified again may be reinstated by successful completion of the Oral Clinical Examination.
A registration fee of $2,000 will be assessed for the Oral Clinical Examination. Until the individual successfully completes the Oral Clinical Examination, the individual is considered a re-applicant.
The individual is not considered a candidate and will not receive verifications regarding their board status. Successful completion of the Oral Clinical Examination will qualify the individual seeking reinstatement as a Time-limited or Unlimited Diplomate.
